With Frankenstorm currently residing on the eastern seaboard, it’s as good a time as any to discuss all things raindrop repellent. With hurricane season upon us and the winter months of rain, sleet and snow on the horizon, it’s time you invest in making your rainy season wardrobe just as fabulous as your sunny weather one! Because if you’re going to have to brave the torrential downpours this fall and winter, you might as well look dapper doing it!
Steer clear of damp pant legs and skip through the puddles with ease in a pair of the ever-popular Hunter brand wellies. While I love the dark olive hue, the snakeskin patterned version would be a playful way to incorporate a little personality in your rain gear wardrobe:
These two-toned rain boots from Burberry are so fashionable, they would be a chic ensemble addition when worn in blue skies, too:
And because I can never say no to a polka-dot, these Kate Spade dotted wellies with a slight stacked heel would look adorable if worn over colored jeans or under a black trench coat:
Speaking of coats…to ensure that your ensemble stays dry on your commutes to and from your destinations, wrap yourself in this quilted Marc Jacobs jacket, chic in both basic black or espresso. It comes with a removable hood so you can adjust it as the elements dictate:
Trench coats are a must for any wet-weather wardrobe. I love the clean lines of this one from Burberry with its signature plaid pattern:

As well as this belted version in classic black. It’s light-weight and perfect for packing if you’re able to get out of town to avoid the deluge:
Channel your inner Mary Poppins and use any of these twirl-worthy umbrellas to keep the rain drops at bay. The unique shape and design of this black and white striped pinwheel version are the perfect anecdotes for curing those rainy day blues:
And this technicolor version from the MoMA store would ensure that you’d always find a rainbow no matter how rough the storm:
Or opt for a more demure and classic design covered in iconic Burberry plaid with this Camel Check Folding Umbrella from the British brand:
Finally, if you forgo the umbrella amidst the storm, ensure your salon-ready hair remains intact with this fashion-forward rain hat from Eric Javits. It comes in solid cherry red or black with houndstooth accents under the brim:
So batten down the hatches and curl up by the fire to keep warm and dry, East Coasters. But if you do have to venture out into the elements, at least you’ll be properly (and fashionably) outfitted.
