Walking around downtown Austin, the architecture amazes me. The rich history hidden in the walls of the buildings, constantly makes me stop and appreciate the beautiful city. This goes for new buildings too.
On November 10, there will be several new houses lining the 2nd Street District, but not just any houses. Doghouses to be exact.
Join some of Austin’s “best and brightest architects, designers and builders,” as they celebrate man’s best friends’ home at Barkitecture 2012. The Animal Lovers of Austin will be showcasing the doghouses that guests will have the opportunity to purchase through bidding.
Teams have worked tirelessly to create the houses. Some of these teams include Newcastle Homes, the Art Institute of Austin, AJM Construction and more. The teams will be judged by Chris Czichos, Rachel Guest, Jim Spencer, Lisa Starr, and Dr. Angie Whitworth.
Besides the main event, there will also be a designer pup-stop during the event for dogs to play, and the Lofty Dog’s Winter Divas Fashound Show, which is definitely an event guests won’t want to miss. The Winter Divas Fashound Show gives dogs and their owners a chance to strut their stuff down the runway, showing off the latest trends.
The Animal Lovers of Austin will partner with several local animal organizations including, Austin Dog Alliance, Austin Greyhound Adoption, Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Austin, Love-a-Bull, and Wee Rescue to raise funds for the animal community. During the event, attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about adoption from local area groups.
Get a sneak peak of the houses at the Barkitecture Preview Party, on November 8th. The party will be at the W Hotel, downtown from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Looking at the houses from last year, each has its own unique character. Some are elaborate, while others have a simplicity towards them. They were all made with love though, and that is one definite theme that will be seen this year too.
