Luke’s Wings has one mission: to unite wounded warriors with their families in times of need. The D.C.-based non-profit provides airfare and travel arrangements for families of service members to visit them in military hospitals across the country. Since their inception, Luke’s Wings has provided 845 family flights, with the sole purpose of ensuring men and women who have been wounded in battle are not alone during the difficult time that follows.
With more than 33,000 wounded servicemen and women in military hospitals across the U.S., Luke’s Wings works to ensure that these heroes have an opportunity to be with their families when they need them most. This mission is especially important during the holiday season. Luke’s Wings’ upcoming Homecoming Gala is an opportunity to raise funds so they can provide holiday flights for wounded warriors and their families. The “Homecoming” theme was inspired by Luke’s Wings’ belief that “home” is where your family is.
The unique venue for this year’s event is Historic Terminal A at Reagan National Airport, which will be closed off from normal operations during the gala. Last year the Homecoming Gala drew more than 200 guests. They anticipate an even larger turnout this year, as the organization has received significant national coverage throughout the past year. Special guests of the event include 20 wounded warriors and their families from local Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
The event will boast an 11-piece band, dance floor, premium open bar and luxury silent auction. This evening is set to be a surefire success, and with 100 percent of proceeds directly benefiting our wounded warriors, it is for a fantastic cause.
