Miss A Columnist

Shawna Nadelman is a Gemini vegetarian who enjoys long walks on the beach and curling up on the couch to take in the latest episode of, well anything on Bravo. The staff at Trader Joe’s (the Encinitas location) know her by name. She can spout off almost any celebrity’s dating history, refer to Friends episodes in daily conversation and would give anything to marry a man like Coach Eric Taylor (of Friday Night Lights). She’s never met a ruffle, oversized flower or horizontal stripe that she didn't love and though her entire wardrobe hails from J.Crew and Anthropologie, she'll never buy an item at full price (momma loves a good sale!). Sure, some may argue she's the whitest gal they know, but (surprise!) she's fluent in Spanish and left a part of her heart in Madrid, Spain after a summer abroad in college. Her family is her everything and she certainly does not deserve her friends. Left to her own devices, she could probably finish off a jar of peanut/almond butter in one sitting. She also loves to write. A lot. If you have a fashion designer, brand, store or website you would like covered on Miss A, please contact Shawna at shawnalnadelman@gmail.com.

San Diego Non-Profit Apparel Company Live A Life Of Love

On October 15, 2011, the San Diego based non-profit apparel company Live a Life of Love launched with the mission to encourage lives compelled and fundamentally governed by love. And now, just over a year later, their impact continues to grow both in the San Diego community and on an international level as they use 100 percent of apparel profits to fund humanitarian charities worldwide.

One such charity that benefits from the proceeds is GenerateHope, a unique recovery program for women who have endured sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. Current sales of all seven of the Live a Life of Love G.O.T.S Certified Organic, GMO-free American-made original knits go to fund GenerateHope’s endeavors.

The non-profit also accepts direct donations to fund their Tangible Love program whose aim is to tangibly demonstrate love to those in need, whether that be supplying orphanages in Mexico with basic hygienic needs, feeding the homeless, or providing mosquito nets for villages in Africa. Over the course of the the past year, The Live a Life of Love team has created a partnership with St. Innocent Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico and has visited the children a total of three times. All trips were funded by Tangible Love funds. To read more about each of these individual trips, visit the “News” section on the Live a Life of Love website.

Webster’s defines love as an “unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another.” With organizations like Live a Life of Love living out this definition on a local and global level through something as simple as the sale of apparel, it just goes to show that no act of service is too simple to make a lasting impact.
