Austin’s New Bar Mirabeau

I tried the new Bar Mirabeau for lunch and was really impressed with the variety of the cuisine and overall style of the restaurant.  The restaurant’s interior is full of natural light due to the large windows surrounding the restaurant. Paintings by acclaimed local artist Luis Abreux decorate the space, along with the fun gelato and espresso bar that catches your eye as soon as you enter the restaurant. The day I visited was perfect weather to sit outside on the spacious 2,400 square foot patio overlooking Shoal Creek and surrounded by lush plants.

Chef and owner Parind Vora offers an array of global flavors along with a touch of Southern style on the eclectic menu. For lunch, I started with the Mexi-CAN pizza- a flavorful mix of beef barbacoa, pork al pastor, green chilies and a fried egg. It was spicy, but not too much for my palette and so, so flavorful. The egg really adds a nice touch and the meat was seasoned and perfectly cooked.

Then, our group split the Spicy Jamaican Jerked Goat Rice Bowl. This is the kind of dish that I want to come back for on a cold, wintry day, or when I’m sick with a cold. It was so warm and comforting, just a really feel-good rice bowl with nice flavor.

The last dish that I was looking the most forward to trying was the OpenFace South Carolina BBQ Pork with honey mustard glaze and served with a side of cole slaw. Being a Sandlapper myself (from the state of South Carolina) I couldn’t wait to see if the BBQ lived up to my expectations of real BBQ from my home state–and it did. It really was perfect, just like home, and, as much as Austin is known for BBQ and we do enjoy Texas style all over the state, this feels like home to me. I’m definitely going to come back at least once a month to get this perfect BBQ!
