D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., has announced the schedule for United Reads during the Fall of 2012. United Reads is a signature program created to encourage elementary school students in the greater Metropolitan area to fall in love with reading and to promote the importance of healthy lifestyles.
United Reads is currently in its tenth year thanks to the generous support of presenting partner T.D. Bank and program sponsors Volkswagen and Gallup Government. The program will continue to partner with the Heart of America Foundation to provide new books to every student during D.C. United player visits to each school.
At each visit, D.C. United players will lead interactive games and activities with the students as well as share their personal experiences and successes with an emphasis on the importance of reading and staying healthy. Players will also sign autographs, take photos and distribute two new books to each student to continue developing their personal libraries.
United For D.C., Inc. was founded on January 8, 2002 as the charitable arm of Major League Soccer’s D.C. United. United For D.C. is a 501(c)3 organization with the mission to champion educational, health and recreational programs and events that serve disadvantaged youth of greater Washington, D.C. by engaging the resources and skills of D.C. United and our community.
