A few weeks ago one “Pretty Powerful“ book launch party took place in NYC. More than 225 New York City notables, celebrities, media and family gathered with host Alexia Ray Joel, to celebrate international makeup artist and best-selling author Bobbi Brown’s much-anticipated seventh book: Pretty Powerful: Beauty Stories to Inspire Confidence.
From the sidewalk, you would have thought you were at a Rihanna or Beyonce concert, but this was more of a private soiree which included a rare and intimate performance by Alexa Ray Joel.
The event kicked off the Pretty Powerful book launch and fall press tour happening now. Alexa (daughter to Billy Ray Joel) is featured in the book along with Brown’s many friends. Alexa gave a moving speech about the book’s message that all women are beautiful and talked about her everlasting relationship with Bobbi.

The proceeds from the evening would go to The Broome Street Academy, a public charter high school in SoHo that the Alexa supports year-round. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house after the endearing speech by Joel.
The party took place at the tres chic Treasure and Bond, the Nordstroms Pop Up Shop in Soho,which donates a percentage of profits to children’s charities. The party, of course, was the ultimate in stylish decor and gorgeous people. The party’s setting was electric with decor of endless white candles, hot pinks and black, bottomless mimosas and plenty of heathy stylish bites.

Who did we spot in the crowd? Spotted at this chic soiree was designer Lisa Salzar, writer and actress Joan Juliet Buck, model Nancy Donahue, author Liz Murray, pro golfer Cristie Kerr, actor Matthew Modine and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

Bobbi Brown has launched her new Facebook app: Pretty Powerful Beauty Stories. Like her new book, Pretty Powerful, Bobbi built this app to encourage women and girls to celebrate their beauty, both inside and out, by connecting with their friends to create a Beauty Story together. The app is user-friendly and interactive. It invites you to build a Beauty Story with a Facebook friend, and populates a cute page filled with photos, shared likes and a place to share your Pretty Powerful story.
To kick off the launch, Bobbi is hosting a 7-week contest where US Facebook fans can submit their beauty story for a chance to win one of 24 Semi-Finalist Prizes(a signed book and product; retail value $200) and 1 Grand Prize (flight to NYC & 2 nights in a hotel for 2 people; retail value $10,000!).
