Fall 2012 Fashion Trend Guide

Although an Indian summer is taking place in some areas right now, fall is upon us and most of the country is starting to feel that cool, crisp air. This means the fall fashion season has arrived and it’s time to put away the sundresses and shorts and pull out the blazers and boots. To update your wardrobe for this time of year consider incorporating one or more of these fall fashion trends:

1. Red Wine.  No, not to drink, although be my guest! Red Wine is the color of the season, also known by a plethora of other rich sounding names such as maroon or burgundy. This deep color popped up on many fall designer runways including Lanvin, Burberry and DKNY. For a more affordable choice, opt for J. Crew’s toothpick ankle cord in “cabernet.” Easy on the wallet and easy to match up with just about anything you already have.

2. Crushed Velvet.  Channel your inner Austin Powers with the crushed velvet trend. Found in clothing and accessories, this luxurious fabric is just the type of soft, warm and decadent feel that fall deserves. Feeling spendy?  Go all out for the green crushed velvet dress by Gucci. Gucci not quite in your budget? Try the Catherine Malandrino crushed velvet dress in sea blue. It is guaranteed to be a showstopper for the holiday party circuit.

3. Winter Prints. Patterns and prints don’t have to be demoted to the back of the closet as the days get shorter. A variety of printed fabrics were seen on the fall runways from dark florals to python to digital. Try out the wildflower jeans by 7 For All Mankind for a quick punch of print to your fall denim.

Vila Cocoon Coat

4. Oversized Coats. Cover up even more in the cooler weather with an over-sized coat. Seen on several runways for fall and winter, a voluminous coat is the outwear choice for the season. Don’t want to commit too much to this investment piece? The price is right for the cocoon coat by Vila, available on Asos.com.

There’s no doubt about it, fall is a fabulous fashion season abundant with new looks, luxurious fabrics and plenty of detail. Spice up your wardrobe with any of the above trends to feel fresh and ready for the season.
