Ever since Full House, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been in the public eye. With their successful series of childhood movies which were produced by their own company Dualstar, the Olsens quickly became the wealthiest women in the entertainment industry at a young age. Since then, the savvy sisters have grown into fashion icons and business women, creating several of their own clothing lines. They have launched their own couture fashion label, The Row, a contemporary collection inspired by many of their unique vintage finds and pieces in their personal wardrobes, Elizabeth & James. They have also released an affordable women’s clothing line for J.C. Penney, called Olsenboye, and a t-shirt line with StyleMint.
However, knowing how to dress women is only half the battle. The real question is whether they can dress themselves. Being a huge fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley, I absolutely love both of their everyday ensembles and red carpet looks. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite styles from these sisters.
Everyday Ensemble: Famously criticized for looking “homeless” or like “bag ladies,” the pioneering duo of fashion have created a signature style with oversized sunglasses, loose fitting sweaters, flowing skirts, and boots. The style, sometimes referred to by fashion journalists as “ashcan” or “bohemian-bourgeois”, is similar to the boho-chic style with an aesthetic of mixing high-end and low-end pieces. Below are some of our favorite everyday looks of the sisters on the streets of New York City.
Red Carpet Look: These two sisters have recently received a huge honor in the fashion industry by winning the 2012 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Womenswear Designers of the Year Award. To the event, Mary-Kate and Ashley looked effortlessly sleek and polished in their label, The Row Resort 2013 Collection.
Charitable Foundations: Their success with their clothing lines have been paid forward to charitable foundations and nothing is more fashionable than giving back. Most recently, Mary-Kate and Ashley attended The Fresh Air Funds Salute To American Heroes at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The annual spring benefit helps give inner-city children the joy of summer vacation with host families and summer camps to experience country life and fresh air. Ashley wore a The Row dress, Manolo Blahnik shoes, and Sydney Garber bracelet. Mary-Kate wore a The Row top and skirt, The Row bag, and Fendi shoes.
So do you love or loathe their look? Let me know you thoughts, I would love to hear!
