Lindsay Torrico is a policy wonk passionate about politics, arts and culture and volunteering. Currently, she works at United Way Worldwide, the nation's largest privately funded charity, and is responsible for the organization’s federal advocacy on education. With experience working on Capitol Hill and consulting for non-profit organizations, she loves to support and advocate for education causes and children’s issues. She has volunteered for such organizations as Higher Achievement, Everybody Wins! DC, Hoop Dreams and Hope Worldwide. When she’s not networking at receptions and attending charitable and political events in Washington, DC, Lindsay enjoys making and customizing accessories for her etsy shop, Freshly Brewed Boutique. A native of Philadelphia, she received her BA in Government from the University of Virginia and her Masters in Public Policy from UCLA. Starlight Children’s Foundation MidAtlantic’s Dancing In The Starlight Kick-Off Happy Hour At Urbana

The Young Professionals Council (YPC) of Starlight Children’s Foundation MidAtlantic is making Monday everyone’s new favorite day of the week. Instead of schlepping home after work on Monday, October 1, jump-start your week with some fun. Join the YPC and Starlight MidAtlantic at Urbana in DuPont Circle to kick-off the countdown to Dancing in the Starlight.

The happy hour will feature Starlight signature cocktails and one lucky attendee will win a VIP ticket to Dancing in the Starlight, this year on November 17 at The Four Seasons in Georgetown. Additionally, Urbana is generously donating 30% of all bar sales from 6-8 p.m. to Starlight MidAtlantic. Happy hour attendees will have the chance to purchase Dancing in the Starlight tickets at an exclusive early-bird price.

Dancing in the Starlight is the YPC’s portion of Taste of the Stars, Starlight MidAtlantic’s premiere fundraising event. In its first year, Dancing in the Starlight ranked 12th on Revamp.com’s 2011 Lists: As Long as We’re Having Fun, a compilation of the most fun events in Washington, DC. This year, the event will feature a DJ, dancing, a robust silent auction and open bar, as well as swag bags full of goodies for guests who purchase VIP tickets. The VIP ticket also includes an extra hour and a half of partying.

Starlight Children’s Foundation is the leading organization in the nation helping hospitalized children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities. Since 1999, Starlight MidAtlantic has provided 15 million hours of entertainment to 275,000 children in 110 hospitals throughout Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

The YPC is comprised of 25 young professionals who live or work in the metropolitan DC area and share a passion for Starlight’s mission. Whether volunteering in the hospital, planning fun events for seriously ill children or fundraising to increase programming in the MidAtlantic region, the YPC is the lifeblood of Starlight MidAtlantic.
