San Francisco is one of the culinary capitals of the world and you can’t swing a spoon without hitting the amount of food festivals happening in this town. The 5th annual SF Weekly DISH takes place on Sunday September 30, and stands out because it is a collection of great quality restaurants collaborating for a good cause, one that cultivates low-income food entrepreneurs in their own industry.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit La Cocina which helps restaurant start-ups become more self-sufficient in the San Francisco food industry. It gives back by helping businesses to grow by providing affordable commercial kitchen space and access to market opportunities. The food industry has notoriously high cost of entry with large start-up costs to open a restaurant in an overwhelming and overcrowded market. La Cocina provides a platform for motivated entrepreneurs to become economically self-sufficient, and contribute to the economy doing what they love to do.
Visitors to SF Weekly’s DISH can enjoy samples from over 40 food vendors, 10 wineries, spirits and beer companies. The restaurants that will be participating in the event are hand-picked by the SF Weekly food editors and include: Americano, IL Fornanio, Another Monkey Thai, Cliff House, Ristobar, Sol Food, Live Sushi and many more. Delicious samples can be washed down with beverages provided by Stella Artois, Chambord Vodka, Bracey Vineyards and Steven Kent Wine amongst others.
DISH will be taking place at the Terra Gallery, a great event space located in the SOMA district, and there will be live entertainment by DJ Tom Thump. It will be a highlight of San Francisco’s culinary calendar with plenty of gourmet delights for a great cause!
