Next weekend, the Long Center‘s Rollins Studio Theatre will be the stage for an original work created by Ariel Dance Theatre. The Geometry of Proximity has been co-choreographed by Andrea Ariel and Steve Ochoa. They are performing the duet to music written by Graham Reynolds and video designed by Colin Lowry for a true multi-media experience. The piece uses instruments such as cello, piano and percussion as an audio backdrop for the visual and movement elements that make up the journey of the show.
Ariel Dance Theatre uses an ensemble process to create original work and has so far presented over 50 pieces. They have been nominated and granted numerous awards and Andrea Ariel, founder of the company, has won the Austin Chronicle’s “Best Choreographer/Best Fine Arts Dance” four times. She started Ariel Dance Theatre to produce dance projects that are integrated with other mediums and engage the audience in new thought-provoking ways. Andrea has worked with Graham for over a decade and this marks just the most recent of their collaborations.
