Vogel Alcove celebrates its 25th anniversary with the Ambassadors of Hope Awards Luncheon honoring community leaders for years of dedicated service to homeless children. The guest speaker will be Chris Gardner, who was made famous for his inspirational story of overcoming family homelessness. Longtime Vogel Alcove supporter Ebby Halliday is the honorary chair of the luncheon which will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Ritz Carlton, Dallas. The Ambassadors of Hope Awards will be awarded to members of the community for their service to the homeless children of Vogel Alcove. After the awards, Chris Gardner will take the stage.
Gardner published his autobiography, The Pursuit of Happyness, out of a desire to shed light on these universal issues and show they do not have to define you. The book became a New York Times bestseller and later inspired the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness”. Will Smith starred as Gardner and received Academy Award, Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild nominations for his performance.
Chairs of the luncheon event are Dawn Budner and Tina Wasserman. Committee members include Regina Bruce, Sheila Chapman, Deborah Gilbert and Julie Vicic. Vogel Alcove provides daycare for homeless children age 6 weeks to 6 years and works hand-in-hand with many other agencies who provide safe, happy and educational environments and assistance to the parents of these kids.
