Miss A Columnist

Shawna Nadelman is a Gemini vegetarian who enjoys long walks on the beach and curling up on the couch to take in the latest episode of, well anything on Bravo. The staff at Trader Joe’s (the Encinitas location) know her by name. She can spout off almost any celebrity’s dating history, refer to Friends episodes in daily conversation and would give anything to marry a man like Coach Eric Taylor (of Friday Night Lights). She’s never met a ruffle, oversized flower or horizontal stripe that she didn't love and though her entire wardrobe hails from J.Crew and Anthropologie, she'll never buy an item at full price (momma loves a good sale!). Sure, some may argue she's the whitest gal they know, but (surprise!) she's fluent in Spanish and left a part of her heart in Madrid, Spain after a summer abroad in college. Her family is her everything and she certainly does not deserve her friends. Left to her own devices, she could probably finish off a jar of peanut/almond butter in one sitting.

Fall 2012 Statement Pieces

Remember when statement tees were a thing? It seemed like everyone from Britney Spears to Naomi Campbell let their clothes have the last word, literally. And while they were certainly clever, I can’t help but to think that there are far better ways to make a statement when it comes to your wardrobe. Why not try incorporating a few statement pieces into the mix instead? Pieces like a head-turning headband, a jaw-dropping piece of jewelry, or a swoon-worthy shoe will make a timeless statement as you mix and match them with each passing season. These four options are far more fashionable than a message tee!

The easiest way to punch up any outfit is by incorporating a fabulous piece of statement jewelry. From a jazzy piece of neckwear to a brightly hued pair of earrings, these accessories can take your outfit from drab to fab in no time.

This Seven Stones Necklace from Anthropologie would look great paired with a simple white t-shirt and jeans or a pastel-colored cocktail dress for evening.

And this metal motif of sunflowers would certainly turn heads if worn with an all-black ensemble:

For a little ear bling, I love the geometric design and bright cobalt color of this pair from Baublebar:

And these stunners are a refreshing edgier approach to the classic crystal:

Another great way to make a statement is with a great handbag. While neutrals go with anything, a pop of color or a unique textile are equally as wardrobe-friendly…and simply more fun!

In my eyes, Tory Burch can do no wrong, which is why I love her take on animal print in this tote:

And as we move into the fall, plaid patterns make their way back onto the department store shelves. This Viviene Westwood handbag would make a great addition to any holiday outfit:

Finally, make a statement at your next cocktail party by carting around your lipstick and credit cards in this snakeskin clutch from Kate Spade in a gorgeous deep teal:

As a self-proclaimed shoe enthusiast, I know the power of a great shoe. It was no accident that Carrie Bradshaw spent most of her paychecks on building her shoe repertoire; that girl knew how transformative fierce footwear could be. So let your feet do the talking in one of these three show-stoppers.

Usher in the fall season with these emerald suede booties by Rachel Roy. The heels are embellished with just a touch of glitter for added drama:

The combination of color and snakeskin found in these ankle-strab wedges is sure to make a statement when paired with a little black dress or skirt suit at the office:

Finally, give Dorothy a run for her money in your own pair of ruby red slippers, like these Alice + Olivia stunners:

Statement accessories shouldn’t be limited to your neck or feet. Your hair can get in on the fun with the addition of a bejeweled headband or hair clip.

Put the finishing touches on your topknot or a sleek ponytail with this rhinestone adorned silk chiffon headband from Twigs & Honey:

Or look chic while growing out your bangs by pinning them back with this gorgeous bobbi pin:

So leave the text-covered tees in the back of the closet and let your accessories do the talking for once! After all, sometimes the most powerful statements don’t require words at all.
