Spike Lee will be visiting Austin for an interview and special screening of his 1999 movie Summer of Sam. The Emmy Award-winning director, producer, writer and actor has been creating thought-provoking movies since 1985. Some of Lee’s biggest hits include Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X and Jungle Fever.
One of Lee’s most powerful films, Summer of Sam, tells the tale of the ‘Son of Sam’ murders that took place in New York City during the summer of 1977. It centers on an Italian-American South Bronx neighborhood who must learn to live with each other even with fear running throughout the city.
The special screening and interview is part of Paramount Theatre’s new Silver Screen Speaker Series. This reflects a film expansion recently at The Paramount and Stateside at the Paramount. Upcoming interviews will include Turner Classic Movies host, Ben Mankiewicz, on December 1st and Oliver Stone on May 24, 2013.
