Miss A Columnist

I am a WHO DAT LOUISIANA transplant dwelling in the Big D and I can be described as a vogue-a-holic by default, a socialite by nature, and a shoe-preneur by trade. I delight in the unexpected, have a tongue in cheek approach to tradition, never wear just anything, miscellaneous is my favorite category, and lastly – am spoiled by all things fabulous and swanky. I absolutely love the Big D because there is always a wide array of people, places, and things to experience.

Miss A has a presence in 21 U.S. markets, and is the first and leading media outlet covering the intersection of charity and life. With a team of 30 editors and hundreds of writers, we write about charity meeting a part of life – fashion, beauty, sports & fitness, home, food, kids, men, entertainment, business, technology, travel, and education. We shine a spotlight on the best nonprofits, cause marketing products and services, corporate philanthropy and philanthropic people to inspire others to give as they live. Since so much of the Arts are supported by philanthropy, we love covering the arts – performing arts, music, dance, theatre and film.

Founded in 2008 by Andrea Rodgers who has a strong philanthropic track record of her own in Washington, DC, Miss A believes in the positive power of volunteering and charity — not only to benefit those less fortunate, but to improve the individual, business or brand that gives their time, talent and treasure to a cause. Our mission is to shine a spotlight on the best charity events, cause marketing campaigns, philanthropic people, businesses and brands to inspire others to get involved.

With this said, if you have an event you would love for me to cover on Miss A, please contact me at pamreneepr@yahoo.com.

Dallas Quad-Amputee Whitney Mitchell Inspires Fashion Fundraiser

Less than two years ago, Whitney Mitchell‘s world changed drastically. In November 2010, she became gravely ill with sepsis from an infection and was put on life support with only a 12% chance of survival. To save her life, both arms and legs had to be amputated just below the elbows and knees.

Whitney is now a beautiful, 20-year-old, former college student who had been studying Performance Art. She had always dreamed of being a dancer, now she just wants to walk again. Due to medical financial burdens, Whitney’s family has recently had to move to a duplex that is not wheelchair accessible and does not allow for complete mobility and independence. Daily life has been a struggle. She’s currently facing further amputations of her legs to allow for the proper fitting of prosthetics so that she might walk again.

Whitney could have given up, but her faith and soft spoken strength have become a shining inspiration of hope and courage. Whitney chooses to make her life count and now strives to be an inspiration to others. But Whitney needs our help. Whitney would like to go back to school, have a home that meets her special needs and a vehicle adapted for her handicap. She also needs professional counseling for the emotional low times in her spirit. Her mother is a single mom with two other children, ages 4- and 6-years-old, one with autism.
