Miss A Columnist

Pam Renee is an original WHO DAT LOUISIANA girl, now dwelling in the suburbs of Dallas, which isn’t so bad of a distance when the craving for a spicy Creole dish, warm powdered beignets, or her favorite drive-thru daiquiri spot cannot be shaken. She flew the coop and attended Tennessee State University in Nashville obtaining a degree in Psychology, and relocated to Dallas. Afterwards, she moved to DC for a few years long enough to determine those brutal winters were not for her, relocated to Atlanta, and eventually came back to Dallas.
She can be described as a vogue-a-holic by default, a socialite by nature, and a shoe-preneur by trade. She delights in the unexpected, has a tongue in cheek approach to tradition, never wears just anything, miscellaneous is her favorite category, and lastly – is easily spoiled by all things fabulous and swanky.
After business hours and on the weekends, you can find her in her zone -- hosting or attending a fashionable event, turning the pages of her collection of fashion and lifestyle magazines to build her social calendar, or designing a stiletto inspired gathering via her mobile shoe bar, How You Shoe’In? pronounced in your best Wendy Williams voice. A lover of shoes since her first pair of pink plastic Barbie heels, she still loves the instant gratification that shoes provide, and has incorporated shoe themed events incorporating stiletto fitness, shoe themed apparel and accessories, and philanthropy -- where shoes are donated to women in need and includes an inspiration note to help remind them to put their best foot forward daily.
Pam loves the Big D (Dallas) because there is always a wide and various array of things available to do, so it has become the norm for her to try to be in two, three, maybe four places in one evening when her calendar gets really tight. She has unintentionally made a name for herself by being the GO TO person for friends, family, (sometimes strangers) desiring something unique, something fabulous, something chic, to attend, stay, entertain, dine, wine, network, or shop. All that she has suggested has remarkably always come back to her with great reviews.
If you have a Dallas charity or cultural event, restaurant, boutique, spa, or salon you would like covered on Miss A, please contact Pam at pamreneepr@yahoo.com. You may also follow her on her very soon-to-be released personal blog at http://lifefabulousnessandthepursuitofswankyness.wordpress.com.

Dallas Quad-Amputee Whitney Mitchell Inspires Fashion Fundraiser

Less than two years ago, Whitney Mitchell‘s world changed drastically. In November 2010, she became gravely ill with sepsis from an infection and was put on life support with only a 12% chance of survival. To save her life, both arms and legs had to be amputated just below the elbows and knees.

Whitney is now a beautiful, 20-year-old, former college student who had been studying Performance Art. She had always dreamed of being a dancer, now she just wants to walk again. Due to medical financial burdens, Whitney’s family has recently had to move to a duplex that is not wheelchair accessible and does not allow for complete mobility and independence. Daily life has been a struggle. She’s currently facing further amputations of her legs to allow for the proper fitting of prosthetics so that she might walk again.

Whitney could have given up, but her faith and soft spoken strength have become a shining inspiration of hope and courage. Whitney chooses to make her life count and now strives to be an inspiration to others. But Whitney needs our help. Whitney would like to go back to school, have a home that meets her special needs and a vehicle adapted for her handicap. She also needs professional counseling for the emotional low times in her spirit. Her mother is a single mom with two other children, ages 4- and 6-years-old, one with autism.
