Although the end of summer is fast-approaching, this is one of the most exciting and busiest times of the year for the designer swimwear industry. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, the biggest annual trade show for the designer swimwear industry, took place last month, where attendees got to preview the new 2013 designer swimwear collections. After checking out the new lines, I definitely noticed some recurring themes. Whether you’re a fashion-forward trendsetter or simply looking to get a jump-start on the new season, you’re going to love this season’s sexy beach looks.
Pastels:
Last year’s “it” color was “Tangerine Tango” but this season it’s all about the pastels! Almost every collection that we saw had some pops of mint, pale yellow, peach or all three—and these hues complement all complexions! Whether you’re into prints or solids, you’ll look totally on trend in designer swimwear done in sweet pastel hues.
Fringe:
2012’s hottest designer swimwear trend is back and better than ever for 2013! Fringe is everywhere this season–and I mean everywhere! But the designers must have predicted this, because their collections all feature unique interpretations on the trend. We spotted bandeau tops with knotted fringe detail, printed fringe triangle tops and even string bikini bottoms with fringe in front! Whichever style peaks your interest, this designer swimwear trend will have you looking perfectly boho-chic.
Tribal:
For the 2013 resort season, the tribal trend is also making a comeback. During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, a number of designer swimwear collections featured at least one tribal-inspired print. Think black and white tribal prints with strategically placed pops of color, chic Aztec-inspired prints in rich color palettes and bohemian Native American-inspired prints that feel straight out of the southwest.
Nautical:
Although nautical themes have always gone hand-in-hand with swimwear, there has definitely been a resurgence of nautical-inspired fashion over the past few years. This coming season, the designers took the trend and really ran with it. In addition to classic navy nautical stripes, expect to see new designer swimwear styles featuring unexpected nautical themes; although many have a retro vintage vibe, these new nautical looks are fresh and 100% innovative.
Bustier Tops:
If you haven’t noticed, crop tops have taken the fashion industry by storm, so it’s only natural that the swimwear designers have followed suit! For the 2013 season, cropped, bustier-inspired tops are all the rage. Whether you prefer solid styles with gorgeous glam embellishment or bold printed styles with sleek front cutouts, these cropped bustier tops are perfect for creating flawless beach-to-street looks!
Which designer swimwear styles will you be sporting this season?
