Power Boat Poker Run To Benefit The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society

At the end of every summer The Leukemia Cup sails into the Washington Sailing Marina as local captains, junior skippers and power boaters raise funds and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society(LLS). This year, the local sailing community has set a goal of raising $200,000 for the LLS mission.

The Leukemia Cup Series includes the 19th Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta races, the Junior Leukemia Cup Regatta summer sailing activities and the Power Boat Poker Run. Last year’s Leukemia Cup Power Boat Poker Run raised over $16,000 to help fight blood cancers, and you can help them exceed that goal this year by participating, sponsoring, or donating to this fun event.

The Poker Run is not a race and is open to boats of all sizes. On August 25 (rain or shine) registered boaters check-in at Old Dominion Boat Club (ODBC), visit five (5) “Card Stops,” then return to ODBC to enjoy festivities that will include food, entertainment, raffles and more. Prizes for the top three best poker hands will be presented at the party.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.leukemia cup regatta

LLS has 58 U.S. chapters, and the National Capital Area Chapter is one of the highest revenue-generating chapters in the nation. The National Capital Area Chapter serves Washington DC; the Maryland counties of Prince George and Montgomery; and the Virginia Counties of Loudoun, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria and Prince William. More than 2,500 patients and families are served by the chapter each year.
