Dermalogica recently launched its newest edition to their AGE smart skincare line the skinperfect primer spf 30. According to Dermalogica’s promotional material, “Smooth away fine lines, brighten and prime for flawless skin and to prep for make-up application. Velvety silicones create an instantly smooth surface. Neutral tint helps balance tone and enhance luminosity and radiance. Peptides and AGE Smart actives help firm and shield against MMP and free radical damage, as sunscreens shield against sun damage. Wear alone over your moisturizer for visible smoothness and luminosity, or after moisturizer application and before foundation to help fill fine lines for a lasting make-up finish. Formulated without artificial fragrances and colors.” All I can say is buy this product now! In fact buy two, or 10, keep it in every room of your house and at work! In my opinion, this is one of the best products Dermalogica has ever made!

As a makeup artist, I’ve worked with many face primers, expensive and inexpensive, some perform well and others, not so much. A face primer should make the skin feel and appear smoother, help makeup adhere so it lasts all day and keep makeup from settling into fine lines; all these things give a more youthful appearance. As an esthetician, I know sunscreen and luminous skin are the keys to looking as young a possible. This product is a jammed pack four-in-one primer that exceeds my expectations and every client that tries it, buys it and loves it.
First, skinperfect primer spf 30 creates an even skin tone through silicones, pearl powder and natural earth minerals. Second, it provides UVA and UVB protection with an spf of 30. Third, it contains peptides to stimulate collagen production, so this primer is anti-aging. Fourth, it helps makeup last longer by absorbing oil. Dermalogica has a full list of the primer’s ingredients on their website.
The consistency of the skinperfect primer spf 30 is soft; there is a slight tint, but it will blend invisibly into any skin color. To use, apply moisturizer and wait for 1-2 minutes, then apply the primer. Do not use too much primer, because it will roll off your skin when you try to apply your foundation. Let the primer set-up for two minutes then apply makeup as usual. This product is great for use in the eye area before concealer and the primer makes your skin look so good, you can wear it alone.
My experience: When I show Dermalogica’s skinperfect primer to my clients, I only apply it to half of their face and then let them look in a mirror. The difference between the two sides of their face is remarkable. My favorite trick is to use it under the eye area where the “crow’s feet” are. Then only apply concealer to the inner eye area where it is dark (Do not apply any concealer to the “crow’s feet” area.). Use a fan brush to dust HD powder under the eye and viola! There is lightness under the eye without using thick concealer and no makeup will have settled into the “crow’s feet” lines by the end of the day. If you are in a time crunch or just running to the store, you could smooth skinperfect primer on, swipe on some mascara and lip gloss and look good!
