Yoga is huge in Austin. And it gets even bigger on Austin’s Free Day of Yoga.
Austin’s Free Day of Yoga is an annual non-profit event hosted by Austin yoga teachers to raise awareness of the benefits of yoga and to show Austinites how extensively available it is in our city. It is held on Labor Day, Monday, September 3. Various yoga studios are inviting people of all ages and fitness levels to participate in free yoga classes. These studios include Yoga Yoga, BeneFIT Bikram Yoga, Dharma Yoga and many more.
Founders Donna Belk, Charles MacInerney, Ellen Smith and Sharon Moon started Free Day of Yoga in 1999 to give back to the Austin community. Since then, the celebrated fitness event has spread into areas such as Dallas and Houston and even cities in Virginia, California, Pennsylvania and as far as Guam.
Don’t miss out on this great fitness opportunity! It doesn’t matter whether you’re a seasoned yogi or if you’ve never touched a yoga mat. You may choose to experience new yoga styles or to experience yoga for the first time ever. But please, don’t fret if you’re a newbie! Many yoga instructors say that new students are the best because they’re more open-minded and willing to learn. And if you do a lot of kickboxing and spinning like I do, then you’re going to love that yoga stretches your muscles thoroughly. You’ll not only feel long and limber, but you’ll gain muscle tone over time as well. Yoga is also a fantastic way to relieve stress and to escape your everyday anxieties. Your mind is completely in the present during a yoga session, and it is a peaceful present in which you feel gratitude for being alive and well.
Before you participate in Free Day of Yoga, however, it’s important to keep some things in mind. Click here to read the tips from their website to help you prepare. Once you’ve done that, come on out and let’s get into shape together!
