On Saturday, August  18, 2012, a collection of both home bakers and professional pastry chefs will compete in categories such as Best New Orleans Cake, Best Vegan Cake, Best Cake in Disguise, Ugliest Cake, Best Art Cake and Best Cake Ever. Professional bakers and culinary artists include Claudia Melgar (The Kupcake Factory), Monica Anderson (Cakes and Desserts by Monica), Ella Lewis (Sweet NOLA Cupcakery), Scott Hunter (Sweet Eats & Cupcakes),  NOCCA Culinary Arts Studio and 2011 Cupcake Throwdown Champion Dawn Snead (Shake Sugary). But the professionals won’t be having all the fun. Contestants will also include many home bakers including Angela Driscoll, Muffy Bernstein and Ameca Reali.

These contestants will have their fondant-filled hands full as the judges of this competition have  some of most well tuned palates NOLA has to offer: Nathan Winner (NOLA Pie Guy), Michele Burton-Oatis and Melissa Woods (Cupcake Fairies, Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”), Chef Juba Kali (Food Network Star”), Jennifer Pagan (Whole Foods Market- Arabella Station) and, for an artistic perspective, Karen Kern (Arts Council of New Orleans).
