Established in 2005, DC Public Schools Beautification Day is the annual, official citywide “spruce up” of DC Public Schools(DCPS) and grounds. Last year, more than 4,100 volunteers participated at 105 schools across the city.
Now in its 7th year, Beautification Day provides an opportunity for the community to get involved and assist in preparing our school grounds for a new year. Volunteers are needed at over 100 schools. Efforts will include landscaping, trash pick-up, light painting, planting flowers, setting up classrooms, creating leveled book rooms and other beautification efforts.
DCPS will provide the supplies, water and a t-shirt. They are looking for over 3,500 volunteers from every neighborhood in the city to help ensure that our schools are ready and welcoming for the first day of school. To participate, sign up as an individual or a group. DCPS makes every effort to accommodate your selections; however they reserve the right to place volunteers where they are most needed. In additional to traditional volunteers, they are also looking for mural artists and photographers. The last day to sign up is August 17, so be sure to register early. Registration is free.
