Miss A Columnist

Amanda Ivarra is a graduate of Texas A&M University. After graduating with a degree in Health, she moved to Austin and started working for a national non-profit organization. She spent 5 years coordinating community events and programs. After leaving the organization, she started to focus on her creative pursuits. Currently, she is working on developing her own jewelry line. Writing has always been a hobby for Amanda. For most of her life, she’s kept journals. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to take her writing public and began blogging and guest blogging. The one thing this girl can’t live without is music. Not really one to sing or play an instrument, she just loves music. Perhaps, it’s the songwriting that she admires so much or a good beat that she can dance to. Whether she’s attending a concert with friends, hanging out with the guys watching sports, volunteering in the community, hiking or visiting the newest places in town, Amanda lives to enjoy life. But, nothing brings more joy to her than being able to make someone smile or laugh!

Austin Children’s Shelter School Supply Drive

As summer begins to wind down, our focus shifts to preparing students for the upcoming school year. Our hope is that they have a wonderful school year. We want them to have the best teachers, make good grades, make new friends and have fun. Most of all, we want to give them the necessary tools and resources to do well in school.

In a few weeks, local students will be heading back to school. Right now, the store shelves are stocked with school supplies, and many children are starting to pick out their backpacks and binders. However, there are children that need school supplies too that you won’t find at the store shopping. Thus, they shouldn’t be forgotten.

Austin Children’s Shelter is in urgent need of school supplies. They’ve created a list of supplies that they need your help in getting. One Child’s School Supply Listincludes a backpack, binders, folders, notebooks, pencils, pens, markers and so much more. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter’s administrative office, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.  Just a reminder, school starts on Monday, August 27!

WHEN: Friday, July 27, 2012 – Friday, September 7, 2012
