The festival was founded by Lar Lubovitch and Jay Franke to show that Chicago can be a dance mecca similar to New York or Paris. The founders also wanted wanted to make dance more accessible to a wide audience, so some of the performances are free to the public. The festival features wide varieties of dance, from ballet to hip-hop. The festival will feature dancers from the After School Matters program and will no doubt have a tribute to the late former Chicago first lady Maggie Daley, a longtime supporter of Chicago arts.
