2012 Taste Of The World In Charlotte

Tickets are now on sale for the 2012 Taste of the World, an event that takes guests on a tasting expedition of the locally owned ethnic restaurants throughout the International District of east Charlotte. This 10th Taste of the World was created and is hosted by E.A.S.T., a volunteer organization with representation from businesses, non-profits and neighborhoods. s. This event will be held the evening of Thursday, October 4, 2012 with Early Bird Registration starting at 4:30 p.m. and activities running until 9:30 p.m.

Taste of the World offers each guest an enchanting taste of three of the approximately 24 participating restaurants within the east Charlotte area, representing countries across five continents. The event begins with registration and an opening ceremony on the stunning property and gardens of The VanLandingham Estate located at 2010 The Plaza. Attendees then board coach buses for their guided tour of local, international restaurants in the east Charlotte area, with owners of the restaurants sharing information about their restaurants and offering food samplings representing their culture’s cuisine. Attendees return to The VanLandingham Estate for a dessert reception, prize giveaway and celebration.

Taste of the World Committee Co-Chairperson Terry Robertson says, “Since Taste of the World began, Central Avenue and nearby corridors have come to be recognized as THE place to experience authentic international food and culture!” Read about each of the fantastic restaurants that were on last year’s Taste of the World, and watch for the 2012 restaurants as they are added on the E.A.S.T. website.

There are many pocket areas of Charlotte that have their own identity, and east Charlotte has become the most culturally enriched area of our city, offering a plethora of specialty markets, restaurants and many other unique cultural businesses. “Located in the midst of active middle class tree-lined neighborhoods and small businesses, this opportunity to experience and enjoy cultures from all over the world is a real treasure,” says E.A.S.T. Co-Chairperson Louise Woods.

The event also includes a free Art Contest running from July 1 to August 31, with the five finalists to be featured in an exhibition beginning mid-September. The winner will be honored with a cash prize at the Taste of the World event. Artists from all cultures and backgrounds are encouraged to submit entries.
