As the world around us develops, it’s important to stay healthy and be aware of the , illnesses that surround and affect us, and what better way to spread awareness of one of the most affecting illnesses while at the same time maintaining your health than participating in the 30th annual Komen Greater New York City Race for the Cure, a fundraiser for raising awareness for the battle against breast cancer, commemorating those who have lost their lives to the illness,  and rejoicing with those who have survived.  The largest of 5K runs and fitness walks around the world, the Race for the Cure Series has over 1.5 million participants every year, and it raises a substantial amount of money to support the battle against breast cancer. Just last year 6 million dollars was raised, out of 2.9 million dollars went to supporting community health programs that provide education, screenings, support and treatment facilities to underprivileged communities in New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Rockland Counties and over 1.4 million dollars went to supporting clinical research on breast cancer. Last year’s race featured special guests like Ambassador Nancy Brinker, the founder and CEO of Komen, actress and Promise Ambassador Gabrielle Union, and emcees such as John Elliot, and

as well as a separate race for those receiving treatment, the elderly, disable and those unable to complete the entire 5K run.

This year the Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure will take place on Sunday September 9th. Before the race, the foundation will host City in Pink on September 5th, as a sort of commencement for the big race. The City in Pink event will feature a cocktail reception, silent auction, and program as well as several buildings around the city displaying their support for the fight against breast cancer by lighting up their buildings in the traditional color of pink. Everyone is pitching in for the battle against breast cancer, make sure that you do whether it be by running the big race and helping to run breast cancer out of town, volunteering at one of the events or just showing your support and helping to raise awareness, a little love goes a long way.
