Lisa Fargnoli is a yoga teacher and holistic counselor. She grew up in Westchester, New York and has lived in New York City, Washington D.C. and now resides back in New York with her husband, Peter, 5 year old son, Sage, and their dog, Lilybean. At twenty -six she began studying Zen Buddhism which eventually led her to leave her job as a special effects producer and return to school to study yoga and holistic living. There, she not only studied asanas or postures but metaphysics, sanskrit, philosophy, anatomy and so much more. "What I love about yoga is that it's over six thousand years old, with so much history, so there's always something to learn". She has been an Adjunct Professor of Yoga at Manhattanville University and done fundraising for Food and Friends and The Animal Welfare League. In her free time she enjoys doing yoga with her son who caught the "yogabug" while he was in her belly, sports, gardening for all the deer that seem to be eating it and taking advantage of the Hudson Valley Region.

Outdoor Yoga Classes In New York City

If you’re wondering what to do on a Saturday morning, why not bring out your yoga mat and venture out for a free yoga class in New York City? Laughing Lotus teaches a great flowing vinyasa yoga to amazing music beneath the High Line from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.  and classes will run until August 25. It’s worth mentioning they also have a beautiful studio and give back to their neighborhood, and the world, through their charity Love Saves the Day.

Also check out their free summer dance party August 2 at 9 p.m. at the studio! For those of you closer to Midtown, there’s more yoga during the week in Bryant Park on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The classes run through September 27. A variety of teachers come in to teach from various studios.

LuluLemon has partnered with Bend and Bloom in Prospect Park’s Long Meadow, again with a variety of teachers from various studios coming in. The class is open level and moves at a generous pace. Classes are held Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. until September 6.

Live in Queens? In addition to capoeira, film and Shakespeare performances, you can now add yoga to Socrates Sculpture Park. Taught by Monique Schubert in the more gentle Kripalu style of yoga on Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m., which is a more intimate crowd, then again at 11 a.m. which is a fuller session. She’s a great teacher taking time to articulate and demonstrate each posture. Her classes run until September 30.

If you have the time to run around New York, you can fill up the rest of your summer and the start of fall
 with free yoga all over the city and experience a variety of teachers and styles!
