As part of the Nashville Opera’s wildly popular Opera @ special event series, the Opera will take on the hit songs from the 1959 “The Sound of Music” movie musical at the historic (and recently re-done) Franklin Theater in downtown Franklin with two showings of “Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music”on Sunday, August 19, 2012.
This lighthearted and fun event is perfect for families with children of all ages and offers close-up and personal interactions with the talented Nashville Opera singers–Tennessee’s only professional opera company.
During the audience participation event, the classic and beloved “The Sound of Music” film will show in full-screen Technicolor, complete with subtitles so that the entire audience can sing-a-long with Julie Andrews and cast to classical songs such as “Edelweiss” and “My Favorite Things.”
The evening begins with a vocal warm-up led by Nashville Opera singers who will use all sorts of props throughout the show that correspond with the film’s ‘magic moments’ and walk audience members through each song. Attendees can also show off their own creativity and tailoring skills during the famous Fancy-Dress Competition, in which prizes will be given to the guest donning the best fancy dress or “Sound of Music”-inspired outfit in honor of the movie. There will also be a Yelp! PhotoBooth on-site to capture your own magic moments. Tickets were in such high-demand for the 1:30 p.m. afternoon show that the Opera recently announced the addition of a 6:30 p.m. show as well. Both shows are expected to sell-out.
The Sing-A-Long series events have become a global audience participation phenomenon, playing in packed theaters in major cities such as Sydney, Dublin, Toronto, New York, and now, Nashville. The musical was recently touted by ABC World News Tonight and The New York Times as a must-see family event.
