Interview With South Florida Entrepreneur Jorge Miranda

I recently caught up with stay-at-home dad Jorge Miranda the creator of a new iPhone app called Goinbee. He shared with me how the birth of his new daughter inspired him to become an entrepreneur.

Q: What motivated you to become an entrepreneur and create a new iPhone app?

A: Being a stay-at-home dad, I was looking for things I could do with my daughter outside the home. My e-mail was always full of deals and newsletters offering events, but it took forever to weed through them to find things close to me that fit within her nap schedule. That’s how the idea for Goinbee was born. With Goinbee you see all the events, deals and news that are near you. You can further filter what you prefer to see by categories and dates.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being your own boss?

A: Being able to spend quality time with my daughter, taking her to play groups and watching her grow. I haven’t missed out on a single “first” moment!

Q: What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?

A: Learning new aspects of coding took a lot of trial and error before the kinks were worked out to get the app running smoothly. And time – there just isn’t enough time in a day to finish everything you start. I often get up before everyone else or stay up after everyone is in bed for the night.

Q: Who inspires you?

A: My daughter inspires me.

Q: What advice do you have for those who dream of opening their own business someday?

A: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again … and then try some more.

Q: How does Goinbee work and where can you get it?

A: Goinbee uses the GPS system on your mobile device to figure out what deals and events are happening nearby. Users can share their discoveries and pictures on Facebook and Twitter. The app is free of charge and can be downloaded in the iTunes store.
