My girlfriend and I just reached the pinnacle first birthday with our second babies, so we decided to treat ourselves to a 24-hour break. Our first stop in Yountville was local culinary hero Thomas Keller’s Bouchon for a spot of lunch. We enjoyed some refreshing white wine with fresh baguette at the French bistro and started to relax.

Afterwards, we checked into The Villagio Inn and Spa which has a Tuscan style and beautiful entry with water fountains and manicured gardens. We were told our room wasn’t quite ready, so we went to Cornerstone Tasting Room next door to enjoy a flight of wine with a great view of the rolling hills.

Later, we settled into our room, which was nicely decorated and comfortable with a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us. Unfortunately, our room was situated too close to the highway, so the traffic spoilt our enjoyment of our patio.

We wanted to check out the amenities, so we took a stroll through the gardens and pathways lined with water features to the spa to enquire about treatments. We were in desperate need of pedicures, but at $75 each we felt it was too expensive. Instead, we selected from their delicious afternoon tea provided in the lobby and walked over to the pool, where we settled in one of their cabanas with our finger sandwiches, cake and a selection of magazines–heaven!  It was a beautiful, secluded spot to hang out and soak up the sunshine, and their friendly staff provided us with refreshments and a menu that included lots of great health options.

The receptionist bumped us up to a 6 p.m. dinner reservation at  Thomas Keller’s ad hoc restaurant just across the road. Ad hoc’s well executed set menu each evening is highly recommended if you are visiting or staying in Yountville!

The hotel’s buffet breakfast with complimentary champagne comprised of very few hot options; a little disappointing as I was craving scrambled eggs and bacon after plenty of wine and a Mojito nightcap. But the outside omelet bar on the patio was a nice option.

After breakfast, we took advantage of the complimentary wet steam room at the spa, which definitely cleared my head. We pampered ourselves with their homemade scrubs and iced hand towels, then cooled off in their invigorating showers. Getting ready for the day in such a decadent way and relaxing in their lounge was definitely the highlight of our stay.

The great thing about Yountville is its village feel; the restaurants, tasting rooms and shopping are just a stone throws away from each other, so you can enjoy great food and wine without having to drive anywhere. The Villagio Inn and Spa is central and is a great option for those wanting a laid back getaway in this picture perfect town in the Napa Valley.
