Plan A Yoga Party

The Charles River Esplanade

In the summer, I like to save money by canceling my gym membership and exercising outside in Boston. The Charles River Esplanade, Arnold Arboretum, Boston Common, Public Garden and Rose Kennedy Greenway are just a few places you can go for a run, unroll a yoga mat, or both!

The one thing I miss about classes offered at gyms is the other participants. Even though most are strangers, the group mentality is great motivation to correctly execute and complete the workout. After a few solo attempts, I thought it might be fun to add some friends to the mix. I sent out an invitation for a Yoga Party! Basic yoga is a mind and body workout that is low-impact, generally easy to follow and you can do it anywhere – for free!

Here are the ingredients for a great Yoga Party

Space: Really any room with enough square footage is fine. I hosted mine on my deck, but an open living room, yard, or nearby park will work just as well.

A Yogi: If you don’t mind paying for one, a private instructor is best; however, a seasoned student will suffice.

Music: It never hurts to have background music at a party. For yoga, I prefer the “Relaxation” station on Pandora.

A Post Yoga Healthy Snack and Cocktail: A party is not a party without food and beverage and it will be a challenge luring guests to a workout without a fun reward. This goat cheese and strawberry sandwich recipe, cut in quarters, was a huge hit! Wash it down with a yummy Watermellon Fizz cocktail and to toast to health and wellness!
