Nail DIY: The Louboutin Manicure

No longer the signature of the goth look, black nail polish is ultra-chic and glam. And one way to make a black-polish mani even better is to add “red bottoms!” None other than footwear designer Christian Louboutin has inspired this oh-la-la nail trend which attempts to mimic the coveted shoes. Even celebs like singer-songwriter Adele, who wore it at the 2012 Grammys (perfectly matched with her shoes), are loving it.

Fun Fact: Louboutin created his signature red soles at his studio in the early 90s when he came up with the idea to paint the soles of prototypes using the red nail polish (go figure) his assistant was painting her nails with at the time.

To get the look, the longer your nails the better. All you need are a red nail polish and a second polish of your choice (you can’t go wrong with classic black, though).

Steps for the Louboutin Manicure:

  1. Start by applying a base coat to both the top and underside of your nails.
  2. Paint the underside of your nails with red polish.
  3. Once dry, apply your second polish color to the tops of your nails.
  4. Finally, layer both sides of the nail with a fast-drying, glossy top coat.
