Austin’s Pollyanna Theatre Company Performs Rapunzel’s Bad Hair Day At The Long Center

Rapunzel’s Bad Hair Day, a vibrant and whimsical performance, will be performed from July 18-22 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts.

Rapunzel’s Bad Hair Day tells the story of the princess Rapunzel, the characters she befriends and the lessons she learns along the way. There is Prince Bobby, who wants to protect Rapunzel from the harsh realities of life, and Sampson, who Rapunzel meets when she is able to venture into the outside world. Sampson believes his hair gives him strength, while Rapunzel feels her hair is holding her back. Both have dreams that take their imagination into the stars, and both find an inner strength and the power to overcome their problems.

Written by Lou Clark, the story is loosely based on the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale. Clark has written more than 10 plays produced as readings, workshops and full productions in cities across the nation. Rapunzel’s Bad Hair Day and Cinderella & the Beanstalk were both written specifically for the Pollyanna Company.

The classic tale of Rapunzel was one of Judy Matetzschk-Campbell Ph.D’s favorite fairy tales as a child.  Matetzschk-Campbell is the founder and production director for the company.

The company’s namesake originates from Eleanor Porter’s “timeless little girl,” Pollyanna. According to the founders, there is no character that embodies the timeless power of optimism than the young heroine. The name is “as simple as the outlook of a child,” and yet “as complicated as childhood itself.”

At the heart of all the performances are hope and gladness. The company consistently and continuously strives to show their audience that hope is real, and it does exist.

The performance should be a great way for patrons to celebrate summer with a great thought-filled comedy.

Me, too. Just FYI, I’m trying to log in using an AT&T with 4G LTE so it can’t be the phone (Internet) speed.
