The Great Outdoors New Gardeners Wednesday Night Happy Hours In Austin

I enjoy buying my clothes from several different stores, never stick to one line for skincare products, even beers I’m not a stickler for just one brand.  But, when I buy plants I only go to The Great Outdoors.  The South Congress nursery is fantastic because of their amazing selection and all of the employees are friendly and extremely knowledgeable.

The Great Outdoors sells a variety of plants in every size and shape, both indoors and out, along with accessories ranging from pots to even sprays that keep pets from eating your plants.  It’s definitely more than just a store with the personal touches and every time I visit I think of another spot in my apartment that I can use a plant or two as they care such a fun, colorful variety.  The staff really helps me with improving my green thumb, I have even stopped by on more than one occasion to ask how to heal a plant that had seen better days.

Jeanie’s Java, the restaurant at The Great Outdoors is a delightful little sandwich and salad soup.  I had a delicious tomato, mozzarella and basil sandwich on focaccia that was just perfect (one of my top three in Austin!) and my friends enjoyed the caprese salad, tuna salad sandwich and chicken salad.  All of our dishes looked great, and fresh with beautiful greens and great bread options for the sandwiches.  All of the sandwiches came with tortilla soup and a great homemade hummus.  There’s a wide variety of coffee and tea drinks as well.

The Great Outdoors just launched their weekly Gardeners Happy Hour this summer.  One that I’m really looking forward to is the upcoming salsa contest on Wednesday, July 11th.  Staffers from The Great Outdoors will bring in their homemade salsa and compete for bragging rights of having the best.  Guests are welcome to bring in their own to enter the contest as well, so come ready to sample a few different varieties and help judge the best or with your own to join the fun!
