After renovations last year, and additional renovations this year, The Sloppy Tuna is back and better than ever. With the new “Rocky’s Roofdeck”, a Beach Bar, and a great ocean view, The Sloppy Tuna is one of those relaxed establishments that gives off a genuine Montauk atmosphere.
The Sloppy Tuna’s interior hones in on the “surfer aesthetic” that Montauk is known for featuring airy, open space and decorations such as hung surf boards.
After hearing about The Sloppy Tuna throughout last winter (and with the constant encouraging of my friend Matt), I knew I had to head out to Montauk and see what the restaurant was all about. Summers in NYC are all about traveling to the Hamptons or Long Island Beaches. Montauk is known for its easy going fisherman vibe, and having some of the most beautiful beaches.
On Friday night, we headed out to Montauk. The bar had a calm Happy Hour vibe. Both locals and those arriving that night from a long work week enjoyed the warm weather and chill atmosphere. Even though the night started off with a little rain, the crowd was fun and ready to start the weekend. The music was upbeat and kept the crowd dancing.
On Saturday, we got there in the late afternoon to check out the crowd and the “relaxed beach vibe” that The Sloppy Tuna is known for. Just steps from the beach, the Sloppy Tuna brought in a diverse group of people from those in bathing suits enjoying the Live Reggae Music, to others coming in to enjoy some late lunch. If you enjoy a Bloody Mary, The Sloppy Tuna’s recipe is one of the best I have tasted. With fresh ingredients, such as the drink’s trademark horseradish, it is the perfect summer cocktail. The live band sounded great and kept the crowd entertained. As the sun set, the crowd became livelier.
The interesting thing about The Sloppy Tuna, is that it can go from a relaxed easy going atmosphere, to an energetic, “dance the night away” establishment. Whether hanging out on Rocky’s Roof Deck, dancing in the “Tuna Can”, or chatting with locals at the beach bar, The Sloppy Tuna’s diverse atmosphere is perfect for any occasion. From a weekend getaway with someone special, going out for a Girl’s Night, or chatting with friends, I highly recommend you make a stop at The Sloppy Tuna. With good food, good drinks, and a friendly staff, this “new kid on the block” restaurant is here to stay.
