Lucky Strike Lanes is a trademark venue for some good old-fashioned fun in Boston. Located just a stone’s throw from Fenway Park, Lucky Strikes is a retro-chic bowling alley complete with colorful lights, fun music, and a sprawling bar. What better place for a night of networking to benefit a great cause?
Recently, I was invited by a local charity, ALZ Together, to lace up my bowling shoes and “Strike Out Alzheimer’s”, to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The event was well-attended and everyone seemed to have fun bowling and socializing.
ALZ Together is a non-profit organization started by a group of young professionals in the Boston area. Development Officer Colleen Warren writes, “”AlzTogether, the young professional group for the Alzheimer’s Association, frequently organizes “social awareness” events, where those in their twenties and thirties get together to meet new people and network, but also raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.”
At the event, I had a chance to speak with Chris Romito, the chair of the organization. I learned that Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and an estimated 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s today. I felt privileged to have the opportunity to talk with Chris and be familiarized with a disease that affects so many.
Stay tuned! Alz Together will host Boston’s first ever Blondes vs. Brunettes flag football game in November, and the 2nd annual Cornhole Tournament in August to benefit the Alzeimer’s Association.
