Summer 2012 Shoe Trends

There are certain summertime fashion staples that you know you’ll be adding to your wardrobe this year like flowing maxi dresses, skimpy swimwear and statement pieces for your jewelry collection. But if you’re anything like me, what you really get excited about are the new summertime SHOE styles that will be added to your closet!

Wedges are a summertime must because they can be worn pretty much anywhere: to the office, shopping with your girlfriends, even out on a boating excursion. A pair that I’m loving this season are these patent leather and cork wedge sandals by Jimmy Choo ($395 at Saks Fifth Avenue). I’m in love with the color – that red could make any dress pop! With a five inch heel you would think they’d look clunky, but the sleek design keeps them looking feminine. These wedges are a must.

I’m also loving these Cutout Platform Slingbacks by Rachel Zoe ($251 at Neiman Marcus). The color is fantastic and can be paired with even the brightest colors your summer wardrobe has to offer. The style is versatile – this shoe could be paired with anything from shorts to jeans to your favorite summer dress. The cutouts along the top strap add a unique texture to the overall style of the shoe. Plus they’re designed by Rachel Zoe, one of the queens of the fashion world – so you know they’re perfect for this summer!

If you’re looking for some fabulous flats to add to your summer shoe closet, there is a great line of fashionable flat sandals by Sam Edelman that you can buy at Nordstrom. They come in a multitude of styles to fit any girl’s taste, from basic to stone embellished to bling bedazzled. They’re easy to toss in your bag so you can swap with your heels after a long day at the office, great for hitting the beach and super comfortable!

Nude pumps are a great selection as well. Not only are they trendy, this style can go from a day at the office to a night on the town in a snap! The Diplille by Stuart Weitzman (Piperlime, $385) fits the bill nicely. The pearlized nude color is devine, the peep toe adds a little something sultry and the back tab adds interest to the back. A four inch heel adds height while the platform under the toe gives you more balance and comfort, something that’s hard to find in a sky high heel.

Finally, if you’re the kind of girl that likes to make a statement when you walk into a room then you definitely need a pair of hot pumps in a bright color. There’s no better time of year to debut a hot pink shoe than the middle of the summer! This gorgeous pair, Licorice by Kate Spade New York (Piperlime, $200), is perfect for steaming summer nights on the town. They’ll sass up that little black dress and could even be paired with a sweet pair of dressed up shorts and a loose fitting top. And with a three inch heel, you’ll be able to dance the night away in these shoes.
