How To Achieve Simple Beach Or Poolside Beauty

OK. I admit it. I am kind of high maintenance. I am not that girl who throws on a baseball cap and zero makeup when I go to the beach, and I never will be. I think a simple beauty routine (we aren’t going for a total glamazon look here) is best for those days when we just need to look decent while reading Vogue and sipping drinks poolside or beachside. Here are a few basic steps that will help you to look fabulous and protect your skin.

Step 1: Slather on the sunscreen. This is non-negotiable! If you have sensitive or breakout-prone skin, take your time and select an appropriate formulation. I am currently loving Neutrogena’s ClearFace sunscreen, but there are lots of others to choose from!

Step 2: Conceal only your problem areas. A full foundation is a bit much for summer. Only conceal actual flaws, such as undereye circles, blemishes, and discoloration. Try to use a formulation that will last all day and blend exactly into your skin. Benefit’s Boi-ing is amzing and lasts like crazy.

Step 3: Just to tone down shine a bit, add a very light layer of finishing powder with SPF. I prefer a powder that is sheer, but has a tint, but a translucent powder could work as well. Maybelline’s Age Defense pressed powder blends well and has an SPF of  25. Another awesome option is Josie Maran’s Matchmaker pressed powder, which has an SPF of 20, but offers a tad more coverage.

Step 4: Add a tiny bit of bronzer where the sun would naturally give you some glow. Keep it natural, though! The idea is to look healthy, not overdone. My absolute favorite natural looking bronzer is Too Faced Cosmetics’ Sun Bunny Powder Bronzer!

Step 5: Add a lipgloss with SPF. Neutrogena makes a great one, as does Philosophy.

Step 6: Finish your look with a waterproof mascara. My absolute favorite is  Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes! The quality is fabulous and the packaging is super-adorable!

Step 7: Protect your hair (and hair color) by spritzing your hair with a protective mist, such as Alterna’s Summer Hair Sun-Kissed Mist. And yes, a hat or scarf would offer even more protection for your tresses!

I promise this look will not make you seem fussy or overdone…just polished and perfectly protected!
