Washingtonians are invited to come play and get active for a cause. On Thursday, June 21 the fitness-minded neighborhood will serve as an outdoor playground for “The Georgetown Dash,” an exciting scavenger hunt-style event.

Proceeds for the event benefit Girls on the Run DC (GOTR DC), a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade.  Their mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run – DC is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 190 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year.  Girls on the Run® combines training for a 5k (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in the critical pre-teen years and beyond.

Teams of Washingtonians will run, hunt for clues and complete fun challenges for a chance to win incredible prizes from some of Georgetown’s top merchants. The lively evening will also feature refreshments, music, discount shopping at select Georgetown businesses and a finish line party at Mr. Smith’s for all participants.

City Sports Georgetown will host the starting line, where participants will receive their race shirts, fuel up with refreshments, enjoy a live DJ and get their race bags, filled with free gifts and discounts from Georgetown stores. Competitors will end up at the finish line-party at Mr. Smith’s on M Street where winners will be announced and prize packages will be distributed.

Wish I’d known about this earlier – would have been fun to get a group of friends out to support such a great cause.
