Miss A Columnist

Rochelle Robinson grew up in the Pacific Northwest immersed in the performance, musical, and fine arts, as well as athletics – from skiing in the water to skiing in the sleet and snow, to cycling around the velodrome. While studying fine art and the musical genre of jazz at the University of Washington she put both her passion for and experience in the arts into helping to create the Washington State Academic Achievement Standards for the Arts by serving on both the Arts and Standards Revision committees. She later completed a Master of Arts in Teaching at The University of Puget Sound and Master of Arts in Liberal Arts at St. John's College Graduate Institute. As an aspiring artist, as well as an educator, she is still intrigued by the creative process and what ensues as a result. Currently, she is developing a poetry blog called A Writer's Space and has co-written both a children's picture book and pilot for a children's TV show. Rochelle also works as an elementary school librarian and advanced reading teacher for a small private school in the valley. She is in the midst of developing a new business named Watercolor Weddings by Rochelle and is developing a series of paintings and conceptual artworks, the first of which is currently on display at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood. She hopes to inspire Miss A readers to explore, experience and get involved, as she sets out to bring a touch of the literary, fine and performing arts that are happening here in Los Angeles to our readers. If you have a Los Angeles charity or cultural event, restaurant, boutique, spa, or salon you would like covered on Miss A, please contact Rochelle at rochelle.robinson@askmissa.com.

Naimie’s Beauty Center in Valley Village not only provides both spa and salon services and carries top of the line skin and hair-care products and make-up, they also host a number of workshops throughout the year, from make-up application tips to skin-care rituals and product line launches. Upon entering Naimie’s Beauty Center’s workshop featuring Skin Authority, I was greeted with smiles and was quickly whisked away to experience a fabulous facial by European trained aesthetician, Susanna Novshadyan, using all Skin Authority products. The soap was frothy and cleansing; I could sense my skin’s cleanliness without tightness. She proceeded with a deep glycolic peel and hydrating masks that I could feel penetrating deeply, but gently into my skin. And the final seal of lotion did not leave greasy residue. My skin felt and looked dewy, supple and hydrated. It was simply superb.

Exiting the spa area of Naimie’s, I came out to the main arena where numerous tables were set up with aestheticians working their Skin Authority magic on other ladies. And standing in the mix of it all, tall and beautiful, bearing a radiant smile, was Celeste Hilling, the native Texan and San Diego based CEO and Founder of Skin Authority. She was knowledgeable and inspiring, and gracious enough to talk with me about her line, her ideology and her business.

I was first impressed by Celeste’s business savvy and her ability to build and market a business with the consumer’s interest in mind. But I was also incredibly impressed by her depth of understanding of skin care ingredients, the importance of research and her background in medicine and technology. Celeste sees her role through Skin Authority as an educator and provider of products that are the best, as well as simple to use. This stems purely from her desire to help others feed and protect their skin.

One product from Skin Authority may include the ingredients of what other lines dish out in 3 or even 6 steps. Celeste talks passionately about the need to take care of ourselves and understand the effects of what we put on and in our bodies. Our skin is an organ – the largest organ of our body. And it’s protective and connected to everything inside of us, she says.

Only the best should go on our skin. Therefore the cutting edge technology behind her line is not in creating synthetic reproductions of natural nutrients, but in providing products that transfer the natural nutrients themselves. For instance, she taught me that the synthetic reproduction of vitamin C is different than that of the Acerola C.  Skin Authority’s C Serum provides the pure form of absorbent vitamin C. After using the serum for 2 weeks now, I can attest to the potency and positive effects on my own skin.

Celeste inspired me both as a budding entrepreneur and as a self-proclaimed skin product junkie. She has a solid foundation for understanding business and the intelligence for twisting what has been done before–while keeping her process rich with integrity. For Celeste, Skin Authority is a means for helping others maintain and gain health.  And Skin Authority is creating a fabulous line of skin-care products that simply speak for themselves.

I couldn’t help but walk away with a bag of new goodies from Naimie’s.  After two weeks of using Skin Authority products consistently, I remain completely impressed and excited. My skin feels clean and nourished. I think I just might have found the perfect skin-care line. If you want to exercise the authority to retain your youthful skin or restore it, head over to Naimie’s or check out Skin Authority on-line.
