Miss A Columnist

Juliana Phillips delights in beauty, volunteering, writing, and all things quirky. This Kansan is nothing short of the girl next door. Since beginning at a young age, Jules has worked hand in hand with groups and committees in promoting awareness and aid to end chronic homelessness. What once started as a family tradition turned into a passion for those less fortunate as Jules and her family continue to volunteer for the Interfaith Ministries, Operation Holiday and Men’s Homeless Outreach Facility. A walking advertisement for dry shampoo and an advocate for Google, some of Jules’ obsessions include: eyelashes, sneakers, crop tops, leopard anything, jewelry, cupcakes, bronzer, Aquaphor, cross-body bags, wedges and The First Wives Club (on VHS). No stranger to the pen and steno pad, Jules wrote several years for a range of publications before taking time off to obtain her Esthetics license and travel. Now, a one year newby to the Dallas streets, Jules continues to drive blindly down alley ways and off the beaten path, nosey to see all the city has to offer. If you have a Dallas charity or cultural event, restaurant, boutique, spa, or salon you would like covered on Miss A, please contact Juliana at julianaphillips1@hotmail.com.

Recap: Dallas Margarita Society 25th Annual Charity Golf Classic

Revelers ready for a day of golf with the Dallas Margarita Society (credit:Juliana Phillips)

A rain date was scheduled in the event the Dallas Margarita Society (DMS) Charity Golf Classic was delayed, however, it was not in least bit necessary since the day was sunny, blue and the slightest breeze was all refreshing. Perfect golf conditions I’d say, though, I’m no pro. In fact, besides a cart girl and once a caddy for my brother (that didn’t last past two holes), I’m a newbie to the green. But that didn’t stop myself from taking a couple swings when offered the opportunity.

The mood, frame of mind, intention for this day was fun for a cause, and this event heartily delivered.  The 25th Annual Dallas Margarita Society Golf Classic was held Friday, June 1 at Twin Creeks Golf Course in Allen, TX.  Things started off at 9 a.m. with registrations, assigned golf carts and the placement of volunteers and hole hosts.  150 golfers arrived with spunk and the desire to get the tournament underway, as the fun unfolds with your journey from hole one to 18.

Each hole host brought something to the table by providing thirst-quenching beverages, snacks, t-shirts, koozies, a dunk tank for the golfers to participate in, upbeat music that boomed above the trees and much more.  Hole hosts included: BarBoink.com, Denim and Diamonds, Consolidated Lender’s Resource, Twisted Root, Black Finn, The Cellar, Top Golf, Harley Davidson, FC Dallas, BreadWinners Cafe, Charity Golf International, McFaddens, Love for Kids, Dixon Golf, Ultra Clean Clubs, Gold’s Gym International, Desperados and Twin Peaks.

DMS remains a non-profit organization that continues to fundraise money for Dallas Children’s Charities with its many events, happy hours, summer golf tournament and end of the year Margarita Ball.  The list of supported charities is lengthy and impressive including Gingerbread House, Mark Cuban Foundation and BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse).
