The eccentric, peculiar and sometimes spooky Addams Family are appearing in a venue most likely unfamiliar to them – a Broadway musical! Jersey Boys writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s concoction of the story, combined with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party) is sure to produce an out of the ordinary performance that will shed more light on this dark family.
Wednesday Addams is grown, and has fallen in love with a sweet, respectable, normal man – her family’s worst nightmare. Afraid to tell her mother, Wednesday confides in her father, Gomez, to keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. The antics that will ensue when the Addams host a dinner for Wednesday’s new found man and family may mean trouble for the young couple.
Always a fan of the Addams Family’s oddball behavior and refusal to follow the status quo, I am excited to see them perform on a new medium. Story line and music aside, I am sure the costumes, set and props will be outstanding–if not over the top–in true Addams fashion. Denver’s Buell Theatre will host this creepy clan from June 19 through July 1.
