Get ready for the Summertime San Francisco Bay Area Birth & Baby Fair! Whether you are just starting to think about getting pregnant, already are, or have a little one, the Birth & Baby Fair is the event to attend with friends and family. After all, who doesn’t like refreshments, complimentary spa services, shopping great local designers like Japanese Weekend, and winning prizes while learning about great tools to help you parent? This event is normally held twice a year (Summer and Fall) in SF, but the upcoming Summer event held on Saturday, June 23, will be at the San Mateo Event Center. The new location should make it easier to attend for those who don’t like to trek to the city (but if you love the trek or live in the city it will be back in SF for the Fall event).

Potential and soon-to-be moms can meet doulas, learn about pregnancy and birth options as well as services, and peek at other event offerings to be better prepared for when the baby arrives. If you’re a new parent, be sure to pre-registeronline to attend one of the great speaker talks on topics ranging from baby sign and sleep issues to finding the right babysitter.

The Nursing Nook is always a huge hit at the event because it gives moms a place to sit and recharge while their little one nibbles (or takes a nap). The Nursing Mothers Councilis sponsoring the nook this year, so they’ve added a Lactation Consultant to help with any breast feeding issues, and will be speaking at the event about the first few days of breast feeding, and the basics of pumping.

Parents may also enjoy the compostable diapers and wipes at the changing counter provided by Earth Baby Composting Service, and that Tiny Tots Diaper Service holds a demonstration on how to use and change cloth diapers. If your little one is now mobile, you’ll need to take a break from the seminars and shopping to allow for play at the play space created by UrbanSitter.  Let the kid(s) have fun and enjoy a Gymboree Play and Music session while you plan out the tables you want to visit and talks you want to listen to in your mind. Afterward, take your little one over to the De Lissy Photography Photobooth for pictures and an entry into their contest to win a free photo session.

The first 150 families who enter the event at 10 a.m. will get a gift bag, so arrive early (and bring cash for purchases since not all vendors have credit card machines). Also, when you enter, be sure to fill out and turn in your raffle ticket for a chance to win a Bumbleride Stroller, Joovy Stroller, $100 Gift Certificates from Nest Maternity, Sports Basement, and Giggle, an Ergo Carrier, Basq Skin fully loaded diaper bag, or a handcrafted wooden rocking horse by Brown’s Remember When. After a long day of shopping, learning and watching prizes go home to new owners, you’ll need a massage, so be sure to get your complimentary mini-massage, compliments of BathFitter before you leave the event (ends at 4 p.m. and you will likely be there almost the whole time).
