Organix Awapuhi Ginger Shampoo & Conditioner Review

Organix Repairing Awapuhi Ginger is a new line of hair care products from Organix, infused with nutrient rich Hawaiian awapuhi ginger extract and keratin proteins to mend, soften, and strengthen dry, coarse hair. I’ve had a little experience with Organix before when I was persuaded into buying the bright red bottle of their Pomegranate Green Tea Conditioner some time back. (Good packaging and marketing are such enticers.) I didn’t find anything particularly special about it, but when I heard about the Awapuhi Ginger line that catered to dry hair textures, I thought it was worth a try. (The cute black and pink packaging might have influenced this as well.)

Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Shampoo ($7.99 for 13 fl.oz.) is formulated with the moisturizing oil of awapuhi ginger plant extract to strengthen and moisturize hair from within. While most shampoos I’ve used cleanse well, they also leave my hair feeling stripped of moisture. Concentrating this shampoo at my roots, I found the Awapuhi Ginger’s formula to lather and clean well, without drying out my already porous, drier hair texture. The shampoo has a wonderfully light and air-whipped creamy texture that’s not at all watered-down, as well as a soft pleasant fragrance. What I also like about this shampoo is that it doesn’t leave that tight, “squeaky-clean” residue common of harsh shampoos and that’s likely because it doesn’t contain sulfates (though it does contain other surfactants), which have been known to be harsher cleaning-agents that can potentially cause dryness. I’m pretty pleased with this shampoo.

Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Conditioner ($7.99 for 13 fl.oz.) is formulated much like the shampoo and is infused with awapuhi ginger and keratin proteins to strengthen and defrizz. Following the shampoo wash, I generously applied and easily distributed the conditioner throughout my hair as directed. While I didn’t feel like the shampoo stripped my hair of moisture, the conditioner left my hair feeling even better. The conditioner gives a nice slip to easily comb through my curly/coily hair pattern under cool shower water. Like the shampoo, it has a great scent and a thick, but smooth texture.

Overall, this shampoo/conditioner duo delivers on its claims to provide moisture and silky softness. While my thick, below armpit-length hair is healthy and I don’t necessarily need these products for their repairing benefits, I do like how my hair feels after using the awapuhi ginger shampoo and conditioner – smooth, soft, and silky while maintaining my natural shine. The fragrant awapuhi ginger line caters to dry, coarse hair, but is also safe for color treated hair and all hair types.
