Miss A Columnist

Stacey Oswald, originally from South Florida, moved to Nashville as a member of Vanderbilt University's class of 2015. There, she is the assistant editor of Vanderbilt HerCampus, an online magazine for college girls, as well as a writer for the sports section of the Vanderbilt Hustler. She recently became an initiated sister of Kappa Delta sorority and looks forward to getting involved in more organizations, like an a capella group or a club sport, during her college career. Outside of school and her extracurriculars, Stacey finds happiness in many sources, the most crucial being exercise and the sun. She loves to attend exercise classes and is an avid runner; she recently completed the Country Music Half Marathon. She also loves Vitamin D, especially when on the beach- though of course, she only soaks up the sun after applying SPF. A few of the things Stacey couldn't live without? Good food (especially from Sweet Cece's, Bricktops, and Bread & Co.), great books (The Bungalow by Sarah Jio is a recent favorite), her family back in Florida, her wonderful boyfriend, and all of the great friends she's made at Vanderbilt. If you have a Nashville charity or cultural event, restaurant, boutique, spa, or salon you would like covered on Miss A, please contact Stacey at anastasia.n.oswald@vanderbilt.edu.

Where To Shop In Nashville For The Perfect Dress To Wear To Summer Wedding

It’s wedding season, and love is in the air! Even if you’re not feeling the love yourself, the best way to make a good impression as a guest is to dress the part. Remember, a couple’s wedding day is their time to shine, and you are present only to support them and be a part of their magic. However, I see nothing wrong with being an attractive spectator, as long as you dress respectfully. Weddings often morph into photo shoots anyways, and if you’re in desperate need of a new Facebook profile picture, you should aim to look stylish. Below are some great options for every body type, all of which can be found in the Mall at Green Hills!

If you love one-shouldered dresses…

(CACHE: Rhinestone Shoulder Burst Dress, $188, 0-12)

… you have to try this neutral dress from Cache! Cache is a really great place to find party dresses, and this selection does not disappoint. The draping and its modest length make it classy, while the one-shouldered style and the rhinestone decoration add glamour. This dress would look stunning on anyone, as it flatters a curvaceous body (especially a girl with a great butt!) but could still add volume to a model-thin body. The color of this dress is also extremely unique, so you can bet you won’t get lost in the crowd. Add some really stunning drop earrings and style your hair half-up, half-down to look simultaneously playful and sophisticated.

If your legs are your best feature…

(BEBE: Macrame Lace Shift Dress, $149, XXSmall-Large)

… look no further than this fun dress from Bebe. Because of its straight shape, this dress can get away with being a little short, so you won’t have to worry about offending the bride or her conservative grandparents. Coral is a really fashionable color for the summer, and this shade is especially beach-y and bright. Plus, the lace overlay makes the dress less casual and more appropriate for a formal occasion. I would pair this dress with elegant gold earrings and neutral sandals or espadrilles. You want to keep the focus on your dress- and your amazing legs!

If you are especially proud of your flat stomach…

(BCBG MAX AZRIA, Katrina Jacquard Cocktail Dress, $298, size 0-12)

… this selection from BCBG will flatter your shape to perfection. The yellow and white color scheme makes this cocktail dress appropriate but still fun for a summer wedding, and if you have any semblance of a natural tan, these colors will make you look like you just got back from vacation. The slim bodice and the fashion-forward cutout in the back add subtle sex appeal to an otherwise extremely classy dress. If your goal is to look cute while still showing off your hard-earned body, put this dress on your list of options! I guarantee you’ll be a standout at any wedding, especially with your hair styled in a casual chignon and your feet clad in dressy sandals.

If you’re still haven’t quite achieved your bikini body (or you just want to be able to eat without suffocating)…

(NORDSTROM: Suzi Chin for Maggy Boutique Pleated V-Neck Jersey Dress, $148, sizes 2-16)

… get this dress from Nordstrom! This department store is my absolute favorite, due to their great variety and (mostly) decent prices, and I was ecstatic when Green Hills finally got a Nordstrom last fall. Their dress department is always a go-to for me, especially because I can buy new makeup and shoes to match my dress right downstairs. I really love this particular dress because it’s soft and stretchy, and it won’t constrict you while you’re breaking it down on the dance floor. The tie around the waist will provide shape, while the modest v-neck is appropriate for all ages. I’d pair this selection with sparkly heels and earrings to add drama to your breezy summer dress!
