
City Parks Foundation is an independent, non profit organization that offers free arts,sports, music and educational programs in 750 parks all around Manhattan.The foundation helps by empowering and educating citizens to support their local parks. They reach over 600,000 people each year. Summer Stage, which has too many concerts and and performances to list, but can be viewed on their website are geared for both young and adult crowds. Many venues are free or have a nominal fee.
This year’s Summer Stage kickoff in Central Park is a gal honoring the music of Jimi Hendrix , on Tuesday, June 5th. There is a cocktail party and dinner which begins at 6 pm and the concert starts at 8 pm. Tickets range from $25,000 for the full dinner to $50 for general admission and there is a range of charity benefit seatings and offering listed on the website. Produced by Michael Dorf and City Winery, the vast list of excitingand impressive performers include Wyclef Jean, Anel Larrieux, Bebel Gilberto, Living Color, The Roots, G Love and Special Sauce, Soul Live, Keller Williams and more. Proceeds will go to the City Parks Foundation. Remember that you can always enjoy the music from outside of the stage if you can’t procure a ticket!
