Trento Italian Restaurant In Austin

I’ve really been wanting to try Trento restaurant ever since it first opened in January.  It’s gotten a lot of buzz, and is a great location as well so was excited to see the space as well as try the food.   The exterior is just gorgeous and feels so warm and inviting.  It was a little too warm to eat outside the night I visited, but looking forward to going back soon for happy hour at their spacious outdoor area.

Our waitress brought out complimentary eggplant caponata and pizza Bianca (made with the restaurant’s pizza dough) to start with that was excellent.  The caponata is made with roasted eggplants mixed with garlic and herbs and is just as tasty as it sounds.  It was the perfect flavor to start with, and definitely felt healthier (and much tastier!) than just plain bread with butter.

I then had a Caesar salad that I didn’t enjoy as much as the rest of my meal.   It just wasn’t really bursting with flavor, so I’m planning on trying the caprese salad on my next visit.

My rigatoni bolognese was excellent, though.  The dish was served with swiss chard and mozzarella in a Bolognese sauce of veal, pork and chicken.  The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the meaty sauce was very tasty without being too overpowering for the pasta.  It looked like a small portion but was plenty filling and saved me just a little room to try dessert afterwards.

I finished my meal with a float made from the restaurant’s vanilla gelato and Maine root beer (all of Trento’s soft drinks are Maine root which is great as they are organically sweetened, no ‘fake’ sugar).  I know it’s not a typical Italian dessert, but it sounded like such a fun dessert option and that it was.  It was creamy, sweet and just plain delicious.  I would almost go back just to get the float again!
