On Thursday June 7, be sure to stop by the Central Branch of the Enoch Pratt Library to see Mark Shriver discuss his new book A Good Man: Rediscovering My Father, Sargent Shriver. Mark, the son of Sargent and Eunice Kennedy Shriver and brother of Maria Shriver, served in the Maryland House of Delegates for two consecutive terms and is the senior vice president of U.S. Programs at Save the Children in Washington, D.C.
In his book, he pays homage to his father who was the founder and director of the Peace Corps and served as Special Assistant to President Lyndon Johnson. After Sargent’s death from Alzheimer’s Disease in 2011 at the age of 95, his son was inspired to write about his father’s life. In the book, he writes about his relationship with his father and his quest to understand the principles by which his father lived his extraordinary life. He describes the secret of his father’s joy, his devotion to others, and his sense of purpose. It is an inspirational story about a son discovering his father’s legacy.
