Summer 2012 Basics to Add to Your Wardrobe

After we all headed to the Hamptons, Miami, or L.A. beaches for Memorial Day Weekend 2012, we need to think about those fashion staples to add to our wardrobe for the rest of the summer! Here is a list of versatile swimsuits, coverups, shoes, skirts and dresses to wear now and into the rest of summer 2012.

The Nanette Lepore “Riviera Stripe” Tunic Cover-Up is a great option to wear both at the beach and over shorts for cocktails on the back porch at night. The details of tasteful cutouts and a flattering silhouette will give anyone a beautiful hourglass shape both on and off the sand.

Now I know it may be frightening for some of us to bare all in a swimsuit this early (who is tan and completely ready for swimsuit season in May?!). Do not fear, however, as one-piece suits have made a comeback for those of us who may not be fully ready to take the plunge. A one-shouldered black suit with special jeweled details like Badgley Mischkas Tangler One-Shoulder Beaded One Piece is a flattering option for all shapes and sizes. Do not worry about whittling into your bikini yet – black is a flattering color and the shape will camouflage any area you might be skeptical of revealing.

When the days are warm but the evenings are chilly, why not try a flirty, flowy maxi skirt, like Alice + Olivia’s Viva Pleated Maxi Skirt? The sunflower yellow color is great to warm up any complexion and the pleats give a great shape without hugging. You can wear it to dinner, cocktails, BBQ or patio party. Try it with a tighter-fitting top to even out your proportions.

As for a dress to go from day-to-night, how in love are you with this Diane von Furstenberg Pharo Shirtdress? Flattering neckline, hemline and waistline – how can you go wrong? The color of the dress is fitting for brunettes, blondes or redheads, so do not be shy of color! Neon is a great trend to be had right now, and this is a basic but classic way to pull it off.

Speaking of Diane von Furstenberg, how about this “Opral” Wedge Sandal to finish any of the above looks? I have friends who have this sandal and its a great way to accent your legs, add some height and still be comfortable at the same time! The neutral color will work with anything in your summer wardrobe and the interesting texture and detail on the wedge will be sure to turn heads (in a good way!).
