It was May 2003: I wore pastel pink and danced the night away and, though it sounds cliche, it was probably one of my most memorable moments in High School. Yes, I’m talking about Senior prom. And though MY glory days are almost a decade behind me, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t many an eighteen-year-old girl in San Diego preparing for their last big hurrah before graduation. So for all of their pre-prom pampering, they should look no further than the magicians at Bellus Academy Salon & Spa in Poway.

A feature of Bellus Academy, a national beauty school offering advanced training and multiple license programs that aid in launching careers in the beauty and wellness industry, the Bellus Salon & Spa is a learning institution where highly skilled students perform a variety of salon services commonly found in the upscale and overpriced salons of Beverly Hills. But though the quality of the services may match those found in more exclusive zip codes, the price tags attached to the services themselves certainly don’t. Which, for the pubescent prom queen must be the best news since we found out that Joe Jonas is back in dating scene (or whoever the kids are into these days).
Channeling our inner High School divas, my Mom and I recently visited Bellus Academy Salon & Spa at their Poway location for an afternoon of pampering. With a laundry list of services to choose from–eyebrow waxes, spray tans, facials, deep-tissue massages–I finally decided on the Spirulina Algae Treatment, a detox wrap employing essential vitamins, minerals and protein to nourish and revitalize the body and my Mom, decided on the Murad Firm & Tone Anti-Cellulite Treatment which boasts both the reduction in cellulite and an increase in skin’s elasticity. And after our hour and a half-long procedures, we emerged having achieved the three “R’s” –relaxation, rejuvenation and revitalization. In addition to the salon facility itself, what I was most impressed by was the friendliness and care provided by the staff. Despite the hustle and bustle that occurred around us, we were both closely attended to throughout the duration of our stay.

With summer and the unofficial start of wedding season just weeks away, Bellus Academy Salon & Spa would also be the perfect location for a weekend of pampering for any bride-to-be and her bridesmaids. As a bridesmaid myself in two upcoming weddings, I know how quickly wedding-related costs can escalate and it’s helpful to know that procedures such as hair highlights, facials, spray tanning, and even teeth whitening can be enjoyed for a fraction of the cost to ensure that all the bridesmaids and, of course, the bride herself are looking our best on the big day.
